A WARM WELCOME

It is a true pleasure for me to welcome you to the Nigerian Bar Association-Section on Legal Practice. It is a great privilege to preside the NBA-SLP as the 8^th Chairperson. Our profession, through the NBA-SLP has a great opportunity as well as the responsibility of assuming a leading role in upholding and promoting the rule of law, professional ethics, and human rights across the nation and thus having a positive impact in society. My aspiration is to make the Section more relevant, thus acting as a smooth platform into the future. I certainly believe that the legal profession can increase its contribution to fundamental aspects of society. To make this opportunity a reality, I will be working with a great team to ensure the growth and development of legal practice in the society. Henceforth, you will receive updates on programmes, projects, and activities as well as links to interviews, speeches, publications and videos. We thank our members for their dedication and invaluable support over the years. The times ahead will be more memorable. For new members; your membership to the Section will be a rewarding experience. The Objectives of the Section are:

To promote the exchange of information and views among members of the Section and other like-minded bodies as to the laws; practices and other procedures affecting the Section locally and internationally.
To assist members, develop and improve their legal services to the public.
To undertake such related activities as may be approved by the Section’s Executive Committee from time to time.
To promote and provide continuing legal education.

The SLP has different Committees to accommodate the preferences of members and providing opportunities for cross fertilization of ideas and cross breeding of interests. The Section provides members with continuous training programmes to keep pace with the fast-changing needs of the legal services market. The SLP publications gives access to discussions on contemporary issues aimed at equipping members with the necessary skill set to attend to clients’ needs with ease in a highly challenging legal environment and promoting law reform.

Dear Colleagues,

It is a privilege to welcome you all to the Nigerian Bar Association- Section on Legal Practice, (NBA-SLP).

As we stand at a defining moment in the history of our profession and nation, we are reminded that the true strength of legal practice lies not only in its heritage but in its ability to evolve thoughtfully, courageously, and inclusively.

The NBA -SLP is more than a committee of the NBA; it is a vital platform for shaping the quality, relevance, and future of law practice in Nigeria. It is where the enduring values of integrity, excellence, and service meet the imperatives of innovation, adaptability, and global relevance.

In my four decades of legal practice , I have come to understand that sustaining our noble profession requires more than technical brilliance. It demands leadership with vision, a commitment to mentorship, the courage to challenge the status quo, and the humility to learn, adapt, and grow.

I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all past chairmen of the NBA-SLP, in particular _*the immediate past chair *_Boma Alabi, OON SAN on whose shoulders we proudly stand.

Their dedication and vision have brought the NBA-SLP to its present enviable state, and it is upon this solid foundation that we must continue to build.

I also warmly acknowledge the newly elected members of the Executive Committee, with whom I am privileged to serve. Together, we will build on the legacies of past NBA-SLP Executive Committees and chart new frontiers for the Section.

In this new chapter, I am committed to leading a dynamic, accessible, and inclusive Section, a professional home where every lawyer, regardless of gender, generation, or geography, can thrive. A place where ideas are nurtured, standards are elevated, and the future is not only anticipated but actively shaped.

I invite you to walk this path with us. Let us draw strength from our shared values and bring renewed purpose to our collective journey.

Together, we can elevate the practice of law in Nigeria, not just for today, but for generations to come.
