PROF. AUGUSTINE R. AGOM

Augustine Robert Agom holds Diploma in Law, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law degrees from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He holds Upper Credit in Securities Studies from the Securities and Exchange Commission Training School Abuja. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and became a Professor of Law in 2014. His specialization is corporate law and pioneered the teaching of ‘Capital Market Law & Practice’ in Nigerian Universities. He features prominently at Capital Market Law events in Nigeria. A.R. Agom was the Head, Department of Commercial Law and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and currently a member of the University Senate. He is a member of the National Association of Law Teachers (NALT) and holds the body’s Long Service Award. A postgraduate examiner and professorial assessor to several institutions, he is widely published in peer review journals and has authored several law books. On Wednesday, 30^th August, 2023, he delivered the Ahmadu Bello University Inaugural Lecture Series No. 02/23. He served in several national committees on law reform. He was a member of the Governing Board, Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria and the Committee on Cyber security whose work gave birth to the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention Etc.) Act, 2015. Augustine Robert Agom is also in active legal practice; was honoured with the awards of best corporate lawyer in Zaria 2009-2010 and meritorious service to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 2018. He is past Chairman, NBA Zaria Branch and served in several reform committees of the national body of the NBA. He is a consulting partner in the law firm of Agom, Shehu, Otache and Ladan Partners and a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
